Dear Members and Friends -

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce we re-opened for business on Monday, June 1st.  Our doors were closed for approximately 10 weeks and we missed you and the entire Midd Fit family immensely during that time. Throughout the closure and beyond we have reflected on the value that Middlebury Fitness has on our lives and it is clear that the greatest and most meaningful impact comes from the relationships we've formed with you, our members, staff, instructors and the entire Midd Fit family.  The feeling of community, friendship, purpose, teamwork and camaraderie is why we have remained committed to our mission and the re-opening of Middlebury Fitness with all the care, cleanliness and focus on community that you have come to expect.

We have been working tirelessly to create an environment for you that is as safe as possible.  We have been consulting with public health experts and are proud to say that we have not only met the CDC and Vermont guidelines but exceeded them and while some may consider all we have done to be too much we feel we must start by taking as many extra precautions as reasonably possible and adapt as soon as our collective situation allows.  You will notice some changes immediately upon entering the facility and many of those changes are outlined below.  Please understand that everything has been implemented with your safety and the safety of our entire team in mind.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE
MEMBER PROTOCOL AND SAFETY- updated 9/3/20

Illness - If you are sick please do not come into the facility.   Outside the front door we have posted four questions from the CDC.  You must answer these for yourself and if the answer is YES to ANY question, please do not enter the club until your symptoms pass.  You will be asked to leave the facility if staff observes respiratory symptoms below.  We understand that some symptoms may relate to many conditions other than COVID-19 but we are living in a new world and we must ensure that all members feel safe.

1) Have you been confirmed positive for COVID-19? 
2) Are you currently experiencing, or recently experienced, any acute respiratory illness symptoms such as fever, cough, or shortness of breath? 
3) Have you been in close contact with any persons who have been confirmed positive for COVID-19? 
4) Have you been in close contact with any persons who have traveled and are also exhibiting acute respiratory illness symptoms.

Hand Sanitizing-  We have a hand sanitizing station (THANKS to Vermont Soap and Whistle Pig) located just outside the front door and require all who enter to sanitize before entering.  There are additional hand sanitizing stations within the facility but washing with soap and water is always best.

Equipment Cleaning-  As you enter the facility you will find dozens of disinfectant bottles (containing an EPA approved solution that kills COVID-19).  All who enter MUST grab a bottle and keep it with them at ALL times, disinfecting all equipment that you touch.  This must be done before and after any contact is made.

Social Distancing - You must maintain a minimum 6 feet of distance between you and the person closest to you AT ALL TIMES.  One easy way to gauge this is to keep one machine or bench between you and the next member.  DO NOT occupy a machine or bench directly beside another member.  In hallways and/or other narrow sections please be respectful and allow one member at a time to pass.

Facial Coverings - Facial coverings are required as you enter the building, walk through the hallways, locker rooms or ANY time that a minimum of 6 feet cannot be maintained between you or the next person beside you.  A mask must be on you at all times and used anytime you are not engaged in strenuous exercise.  If it is possible to wear your mask while exercising Please do it!  We recognize that exercising with a facial covering can be uncomfortable but research has proven that it is the key to making sure we can open safety and take care of each other.  Our staff will be wearing coverings at all times out of respect for you, our valued members!   Please do the same for each other and for us!

Wash Your Hands -  The more often you wash your hands the safer you will be.  The CDC recommends a minimum of 20 seconds.  

Social Interaction - We have missed you and cannot wait to say hello and see how you've been doing!  Keep in mind that for the safety of all we ask that you keep socially distant and limit interaction time with other members and staff to a minimum, at least for the time being.  We know this is part of why you love the club, and so do we, but every little precaution we can implement will help us all get back to "normal" sooner rather than later!

Be Kind and Respectful -  We are living in crazy times and we fully acknowledge that anxiety is high and many of the necessary changes to the facility including reduced live classes, services and additional protocols may be frustrating as many of us, including me, don't particularly like change.  Please remember that our staff, instructors and your fellow members have been living this pandemic also and stress has been at an all time high for everyone.  We need to be extra kind and understanding of one another as we navigate a safe and thoughtful re-opening. 


Workout Time Limits-  While we do not intend to limit your workout times we hope you will be as efficient as possible with your workout so that we can accommodate as many members as possible while maintaining adequate social distance. 

Off Peak Times -   If possible, we encourage you to consider off peak times which are traditionally between 7:30-9am, 1:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. 

Check-In - We require that EVERY member check-in on every visit.  Many of you have been members for over two decades and we know who you are but please check-in at the desk every time and make sure the staff member on duty knows your name.   This is a state requirement for our re-opening.


WHAT WE HAVE DONE TO KEEP YOU SAFE
FACILITY PROTOCOL AND CHANGES - updated 9/3/20

Cardio Floor -  We have reconfigured much of the cardio floor to allow for additional spacing.  You will find 3 rows of machines as opposed to 4 allowing for much more social distancing and walking lanes.  We have moved a few cardio machines off the floor and placed them in other sections of the gym.  For example you will find a rowing machine and a spin bike in the TRX area and the Nu-Step at the end of the hall.  By leaving the required one machine between you and the next member you will have a minimum of 6-8 feet between you and the next person beside you and a minimum 9-10 feet to the person in the front or back of you.    

Free Weight Floor -  We have removed 4 benches from the free weight side to allow for more distancing.  One flat bench, the decline bench, the seated calf and t-row machines have been removed for the time being.  These small changes makes the room feel much more spacious. 

Spin Room - The spin room will remain open for member use but all cleaning protocols (clean equipment before and after) must be followed.  We have removed all but 2 bikes in the room and added a stepper, recumbent bike and rowing machine for a total of 5 machines.  The max number of members in the room at any one time is limited to 3.

Studio 1 and 2-  Open to members at any one time for stretching or other forms of exercise.  You must maintain a minimum of 6 ft distance at all times and wipe down ALL equipment that you touch.

Equipment Room Between Studios - Closed during this initial opening phase.

Cybex Machines - All Cybex machines have been moved to the perimeter of the room to allow for more distancing.  No machines have been removed just re-positioned.

Front Desk Barrier - We have installed plexiglass barriers (aka "sneeze guards") around the front desk for your protection and the protection of our staff.

Disinfectant Bottle Return -  When you are leaving the facility we ask that you place your disinfectant bottle at our "Bottle Return" station and NOT back on the table by the front door.  Our staff will sanitize the bottle so that you know you are grabbing a clean bottle each time you enter the facility.

Saunas-  The saunas will be temporarily closed during this opening phase.

Lockers -   Rented lockers may still be accessed but day use lockers are not encouraged during this phase to eliminate multiple and unnecessary "touch points".

Towel Service -  Shower towel service has been eliminated during this initial phase.  Workout towels WILL be provided but we do hope you will consider bringing your own from home for now.

Group Fitness Classes -  Virtual classes will continue as scheduled and are posted on our website.  Live classes will be put on hold until at least June 15th.  We will be posting an update to the LIVE class schedule on or around June 12th.  Thank you for your understanding as we bring live classes back on the schedule as soon as possible.

Magazines - 
Magazines have been removed from the floor to avoid any unnecessary touch points and create larger walking lanes.  Feel free to bring your own from home.

Workout Folders-  Your personal workout folders have been removed from the floor and are available for pick-up at the front desk.  We ask that you take your card home with you and bring it with you on each visit if you would like. 

Smoothies -  We will be offering smoothie service in this phase but please keep in mind that we have removed seating to allow for social distancing. 

Locker Rooms and Showers -  Locker rooms are limited to a maximum 4 people at any one time.   At this time you are encouraged to shower at home and please keep your time in the locker room to a minimum.   If you choose to shower please leave one stall between you and the next member.

Mats and Towels-  Please bring your own mats and workout towels at this time.  We WILL continue to provide workout towels but for the safety of our staff we respectfully request that you bring your own from home.

Tables, Chairs and Couches-  While we love to socialize as much as you do we have removed seating to allow for more distancing and the encouragement of efficient workouts in an effort to accommodate as many members as we can at this time. 

Water Fountains-   Water fountains will be closed during this phase.  We encourage you to bring your own water bottle or you may purchase one at the front desk.  If you bring your own you may refill it in the locker room.

Balls, Bands and Foam Rollers -  We have moved these items to the lobby and ask that you sanitize them in the lobby before placing them back on the rack.  This will help us ensure that all items are clean, sanitized and ready for the next member.

Air Quality -
Over the last few weeks we have been reminded that air quality and the ability of an indoor ventilation system to exhaust air out of a room, replaced with fresh air is critically important.  We are fortunate to have an exceptional ventilation system that exchanges air at a very rapid rate.  The ventilation system throughout the building combined with the volume of air in each room (given our high, open ceilings) provides a very favorable environment.

Club Cleaning -  As you would expect we have deep cleaned the entire facility and implemented new and enhanced cleaning protocols for staff and our professional cleaning crew, Mr. Mike's Cleaning Service.  High touch points such as door knobs, handles, faucets, etc. will be cleaned approximately every hour with deep cleaning after hours and whenever possible throughout the day.

Personal Training -  Training will be permitted in this phase but our trainers and their clients must always maintain a 6 foot distance, or be wearing a facial covering at all times.   While we recognize that physical contact is often a part of personal training we want to follow all CDC and Dept of Health Guidelines and we know that our trainers get still get you results from 72 inches away!!

Tanning -  The tanning bed is open though we will be allowing more time between appointments to allow for disinfecting and air exchange.
